***ADOPTED!!!***

Kate (liver/white, 2 years old and Wills (black/white 3
years old) are two of the most beautiful, soft and
gentle English Setters you will ever encounter.

Sadly they were subjected at a very young age to
some bad treatment designed to force them to hunt.
The result is that they are not well socialized to
humans, and very scared of us. This has improved,
especially with Kate, but very slowly over the slightly
over a year they have been with us.

Both are healthy, spayed and neutered, heartworm
free, crate trained and they have house trained
themselves from our own five adoptees’ example.
Kate will occasionally pee when she is scared (at the
vet) and Wills might poop (if he’s left in too long).

They are affectionate and becoming more so. Kate
has become a confirmed lap and couch potato and
Wills, who prefers to stay in our sunroom on his mat,
will lean on me and cling to my leg.

The bigger the secure yard for them the better (she
is occasionally inclined to dig, but neither are
climbers). They love to run and play with our dogs,
ranging from a female Redbone Coonhound, who has
become their best friend, to a male Doberman
Pinscher. We feed all the dogs separately and there
has never been a hint of conflict. Kate and Wills are
quite submissive, and would fit into any pack without
affecting the pecking order.

Although Kate would be fine on her own, I think Wills
would be lost without her, so it would really be best if
they could stay together. They will need a long-term
foster or adopter with plenty of love and patience,
who will eventually receive the love that they are
slowly learning to give.

They have not been cat tested (our barn cat retreats
to the top of the hay and won’t cooperate). I think
small kids would terrify them. Older kids, who know
how to be patient and gentle, should be OK.

Kate and Wills are in foster care in Calera, AL.
