Ty, who has a listed date of birth as August 1995,
came to Virginia from Kentucky on November 22,
2008. He has started to slow down from his initial wild
days, where he would grab a prize before running to
the door, begging to go outside. Nowadays, he
happily begs for food (woofing at the back door till I
open it and then he does little bunny hops, dancing
around, waiting for me to put down the bowl) and
then begs for more food!
His ideal love is a man who smokes and has a friendly
hand for a head rub. Ty has adoringly stared (and
drooled) at men chatting in a circle while diesel trucks
warmed up on a cold winter’s day at the company
behind my house. Ty shows a slight interest in birds
now; he used to watch for the robins in particular. He
even found the baby robin between the cinder block
and the fence, pointing and waiting till I clued in on
what was there. He waited till I got near and then
lunged for the baby bird, who escaped. He will gladly
assist you in any project, even to the point where he
gets underfoot, or you can sometimes catch him
rubbing his head on the ground, turning his white
streak reddish-brown from mud.
Ty takes medicine for arthritis and gets along very well
for his age. He now weighs about 50-55 lbs and loves
going for car rides. He will begin to bob his head even
before I start the car, anticipating the starting of the
engine. A typical senior citizen, Ty sleeps most of the
day, looks forward to his three meals per day and
goes out in the dog kennel for a walk.
