Thoughts From a Few Drivers
Eagles
Life In The Fast Lane
Hi, my name is Wendy, a.k.a. Wink and I am a "transport-a-holic".  One of my
favorite memories is Daisy now known as Casey.  Daisy/Casey is an English Setter
who had to be moved immediately because her foster family was going on
vacation. It was decided that Daisy would fly from Oklahoma into Pittsburgh and I
would keep her until her forever family arrived home.

At 8:00 am on a Monday morning I got a call from Carol, Daisy's adopting "mom".
They were home.  We arranged to meet that afternoon

I will NEVER forget that meeting.  I walked Daisy, now Casey, slowly over to
them.  They fell in love, I cried.  And Daisy?  Well she jumped up, put one paw on
each of my shoulders and gave me a look that said "thank you".  I watched as
Carmen & Carol walked her to their car.  She turned her head to look at me one
last time as I gave her the thumbs up. This is truly what transporting is all about.
Fonzie's Story
by Fonzie McKenney (Nancy)
Hi, my name is Fonzie and I am a rescue dog.  I'm am not a
transport driver but a tranportee!  My Mom is a transport
driver and I am the reason she does this!  She adopted me
and I was in Indiana and she lives in NY.  Lot's of kind people
volunteered to drive a "leg" to get me to my Mom.  I have
never forgotten their kindness and neither has she.  When
she drove out to Rochester on an icy night almost 3 years
ago to pick me up, she realized that transporting would be a
way she could help other dogs like me.  Since that night she
has driven numerous transports and helped lot's of other
needy dogs get to their destinations.  I don't get to go with
her, but I know by sniffing what she has been up to.
Sometimes she has an icky smell to her and I know that she
has helped to get some dogs from high kill shelters to safety.
Sometimes she comes home with tears in her eyes and talks about how
precious the cargo was that day and thank goodness they could be saved.
She has shared stories about the senior dogs that were shaking and
scared and how she tried to comfort them in their time of bewilderment.
Other times she is laughing because somebody she was transporting
decided to "sing" along to the Goo Goo Dolls CD, even though they didn't
know the words.  She has lot's of pictures too, like the 6 puppies in a crate
and the Mom and her puppies all going to a safe place.  Then there are the
times she has to travel and will take along someone who may need a ride.
Stanley the German Shepherd went with her to Rochester.  Stanley
needed a ride and Mom liked the company.  Transporting is a very cool
thing.  You meet new friends, lot's of dogs get saved and lot's of waiting
forever families get their special pals!  I know it makes my Mom happy and
helps her sleep at night, knowing she helped.  Because if it wasn't for
transports, I wouldn't be sleeping all curled up at my Mom's feet every
night and she wouldn't have her heart dog and I wouldn't have my heart
Mom.

Because of you....

Because you took the time to take our pups into
your rescue....
Because you took the time to organize the
transport....
Because you took the time to drive these pups all
across the states....
Today.....there is room for Scooter at our Humane
Society! (This picture was taken this morning)

Scooter says, "Thanks a million!"
