Domino was found wandering on top of a mountain, alone,
cold, and nearly starved to death. He is a mild mannered
older boy of probably about 7-11 years. His age is a bit hard
to narrow down, as it appears he may have had a rough life,
and might not be as old as his appearance suggests,
although he still wants to be a bit feisty and play now and
then. Mostly, he just wants attention, love, and food… lots of
it. He is a medium build, neutered and weights about 40 lbs,
but still needs to pack on a few more pounds to be at his
best.
He has some old scars, and it is obvious he has seen some
rough days. The worst was his nose and front teeth. It
appears he may have been hit in the mouth or fallen off of
something, as most of the front teeth he had left we badly
damaged and had to be removed. His canine teeth and back
are in otherwise good shape, which is why I feel like an injury
of some kind may have caused the damage to his front teeth.
He’s also got a few scars across his nose, indicating an old
injury. His eyes are just starting to get a bit cloudy…tell-tale
Domino would do best as an “only child”. He is an “Alpha”
male, and even with his age, he will try to hold his own if he
feels threatened. One of our younger dogs ran into Domino
and knocked him over, and Domino became very defensive, as
he thought he was being attacked. I feel he would do ok with
kids as long as they left him alone, although as with any large
or older dog, might get food snatched away or get pushed
down. Domino might not take well to being climbed on,
bumped into or grabbed at, but I see no reason that he would
be aggressive with children if they were gentle with him.
He is doing well in a crate and sleeps at night
with no issues. He does not like being confined
otherwise, and will bark as soon as he knows
someone is home, as he wants to be near you.
He is also doing well with housebreaking, but
since this is all new to him, he will need
supervision when loose in the house. He uses
the doggie door with no issues. He is an older
dog, and does need to go out a bit more
often, so would be best if not confined for
long periods.
signs of his older status. He appears to be able to see fine, and his hearing is good also. The vet reports
that his heart and lungs sound really good for a dog of his obvious age, and see no indication of health
issues in the near future.
He is an overall mellow boy who
appears to just want someone to love
him, and a nice soft place to rest his old
bones. He enjoys being outside and
walking wherever you are, but is not a
higher energy dog. Domino is a
counter surfer, although it is hard for
him to get up there, he can do it. He
will also attempt to get into the trash if
he can reach it. Those smells are just
too hard for him to resist sometimes,
but he’s doing better and is working
on it. He is eager to please, and this old
boy is trying hard to learn all the new
tricks of being a good boy. Domino
would be the ideal companion for a less
active person who wants a dog who
will just ‘putter around’ and hang out.
