We are pleased to introduce Queen Sofie. Her gentle brown eyes are guaranteed to melt your heart and her spunky personality will have you falling in love with her in no time.
How Sofie ended up in a kill shelter is a mystery. The shelter estimated her age at 5, a temp foster estimated 7 years, and when she made her way to the rescue vet, "Dr T" estimated that she is 12 years young. She is young at heart and certainly does not act like a senior dog. Sofie was very skinny and heartworm (HW) positive, but she is now HW treated, healthy and she has put on about 15 lbs in rescue. Sofie certainly thrived in rescue, she started putting on weight when she was with her wonderful temp foster and before she was even treated. She sailed through the HW treatment and recovery like a youngster. She had x- rays and blood work which were all normal before HW treatment started.
Sofie is house-trained in her foster home using a doggy door. She’s trusted with run of the house when her foster Mom is out and she’s never done anything wrong. She gets along with the resident and foster dogs, but she does not like some new dogs getting in her face and being rude, she expects basic manners from other dogs. She did fine with all six visiting dogs/houseguests one recent weekend, including three Chihuahuas. Sofie is doing fine in a home with multiple cats, but one bully cat has triggered occasional cat chasing behavior that is easily corrected verbally. She’s never hurt a cat and has run of the house with the cats unsupervised. Sofie established her Queen Bee status in the foster home with a calm and confident grace.
Sofie loves all people, including women, men and children. But because of her age and the unpredictable movements and actions of very young children, she will be happiest in a home where everyone understands how to treat her gently.
We are unsure about Sofie being a pure bred English Setter, but everyone who meets her agrees that she has a significant amount of English Setter looks and personality. And don’t let her age fool you, like most English Setters, Sofie thinks a run-about is a fun thing to do if she gets the chance so for that reason we are recommending a fenced yard for Sofie and she will be fine in a shorter fence.
Sofie is one of the sweetest and easiest dogs we have ever fostered. She fits right in like she’s always been here. In her foster home she enjoys couch privileges and made it clear from the start that the couch is one of her favorite places to nap, so this is a privilege she should have in her furever home. The only reason she is available for adoption is because her foster Mom is a “revolving door” foster.....so for foster Mom to have space to save the life of another dog in need, Sofie must find and go to her furever home. Some family will be very lucky to have Sofie join and with her wonderful attitude we expect her to bring years of smiles and joy.
