Shakira
Shakira will make a wonderful addition to an
active family with a fenced yard.  She is very
active, sweet 5 yr old who loves to play!  She also
jumps when someone is approaching our fence
and is excited and her whole body comes even
with the top of the 6 foot fence.  She's like Tigger!
But she hasn't jumped to escape...Just straight
up in the air in excitement!  There are some 4 foot
sections of fence in our yard and she has never
tried to jump them but at least a 5 foot secure
fenced yard is high on Shakira's list of priorities in
her new home.

We're not sure of her exact history but she was
pulled from a kill shelter down south and has a
tattoo in one ear that is unidentifiable.  She is also
debarked which implies that she came from a
kennel and was possibly a failed or retired hunting
dog.  She is excellent on the leash and very
respectful.  She had obviously had a bit of prior
training before coming into A&B.  She does listen
when she is called in a fenced enclosure (of
course) and when she returns to whomever calls
her, she usually sits when you lean down to pat
her.  Her previous owner certainly gave whoever
her lucky adopter is a good foundation to build
continued training on.  She is house-trained and
crate trained and uses a doggie door that opens
into a fenced yard.  She does counter surf some
so she needs continued training in any new home
she goes into.  She's been good with kids and
adults both and has shown no signs of aggression
except when another dog challenges her. She
isn't one to back down so either a home as an
only dog or a home with a submissive dog is best.

Shakira has not been cat tested so we don't know
how she'd be with them. She is up-to-date on her
shots and has recently been spayed.

Shakira is just a fun loving dog, looking for that
lucky person or family that has been searching for
a wonderful companion.   And how could anyone
resist that sweet little face?

One can only guess how Shakira was treated
before coming to A&B but judging from some
underlying confidence issues and her tendency to
overreact to physical discomfort, it can be
assumed that she wasn't treated like anything
more than a servant when she deserves to be
treated like a queen!  She bears some slight
emotional scars that will eventually fade with
confidence building and trust in her owner, but
they will never completely disappear so a couple
or individual with dog experience is preferred.  A
home without young children is highly
recommended."
