Ruff ruff from Saturn!
Saturn is a 10 yr. old neutered, heartworm negative
sweet boy. He was an owner surrender, from a man
who reports that Saturn was his son’s dog, and that
his son was killed the year before. How tragic for all.
It is quite apparent that Saturn was trained well, as
he has never had an accident in the house, generally
comes when called (typical setter!), will sit, and lie
down on command. Not to mention flopping over for
an extended belly rub. We had a barking issue early
on, from separation anxiety. We both have worked
very hard to resolve this, with much success.
When I leave the home, he is in a TV room with
another setter with the bottom of a half door closed
to contain them. Playing the TV while I am gone has
helped. But at the vet’s suggestion we started him on
Doggie Prozac (inexpensive: $10/for 100…over a 3
month supply).
He is a different dog….I describe as him being
‘comfortable in his own skin’. It has not affected his
playfulness or activity level. Currently when I leave,
my departure goes un-noticed and (not barked on),
80-90 % of the time. The remaining time, he gives a
few barks of protest, but settles quickly. Saturn and I
are so happy that we have reached this point.
He always greets me with a Kong or Kong Bone in his
mouth, and will play fetch with it, even if just tossed 5
feet. He will follow me room to room, and just settle
at my feet.
He and my 14 year old female setter Abigail have
sniffing play, as my 14 year old girl does not hop
around like she used to. Saturn will run and play with
me in my small fenced yard…..but would so much
more enjoy a larger yard and playmates….canine and
human. He has been around dog cousins much junior
in size (Italian greyhound….very small, not a regular
sized racing greyhound, and a chihuahua) with no
aggression or problems.
Saturn has never snapped or growled….ever! I can
take his Kong away from him without issue. He is not
food aggressive, will actually eat out of his bowl, not
Abigail’s with them being right next to one
another…most of the time. If I am in the room, he
never tries, but if I leave, he will occasionally start in
on hers, but never aggressively.
He loves to sniff squirrel and bunny scents. He has
not made attempts to jump over my 4 ft. split rail and
light wire fencing.
Saturn has a wonderful temperament, is a cuddly,
loyal, funny, goofy boy, who acts younger than his
age. He would love to be adopted by a furever home
that has a larger yard, with active humans whom he
will adore and love.
Please consider making this ‘mature’ loving boy part
of your family…..as dogs of every age deserve a
forever home.
Saturn is in foster care in Wilmington, DE.
