Ripley is a gorgeous 4 1/2 year old liver and white
Llewellin setter from King Llewellen kennel in Arkansas.
This was confirmed by his breeder via the tattoo
number. He is from the Bondhu lines, specifically.
Ripley was an owner surrender at a local shelter. The
shelter contacted A&B because Ripley was not doing
well in the shelter environment. He was turned in
because his former owners stated that he jumped up
and clawed at them and played too rough. While he
does jump up, he has gotten much better about that
and is fairly light for his size. I do not see that he plays
too roughly.
Ripley is a big boy and stocky in build. He does need to
lose weight and hopefully his new home will help him
with shedding a few pounds. Ripley knows "sit", and he
is learning that he has to sit before getting hugs and
attention from me. Ripley has completed basic obedience
class and did quite well in learning basic commands.
Ripley has gotten better with his minor behavior issues
of jumping up and demand barking. He still needs to
work on these with a family that will have more time
than I currently do.
He craves attention and is a bit needy, so he barks
when he wants your attention. He also has some minor
separation anxiety and would like a dog buddy or
someone who could be home with him more than I am.
He does not like to be shut in a crate, but is now going
into one of the crates on his own as his hideaway. He
seems to be fine when left loose in my house when I
am not at home. We are also still working on minor
potty training issues.
Ripley’s energy level is average to lower and he loves
being with his people. He likes to cuddle on the couch
with his people and would probably love to sleep in my
bed with me if I let him. He walks quite well on leash
with a harness and rides well in the car (with a barrier in
place). He is not overly birdy and doesn't seem to have
a high prey drive.
He gets along with my dogs, but did have a few
challenges at initially in determining pack order. Ripley is
more of an alpha and would do well with a more
submissive dog. He loves playing with another foster
boy of mine. Ripley also did great with four 6 month old
foster puppies that were visiting for a month. He was
very tolerant of them and shared his toys and food with
them. He would let them know when he got tired of
their antics but was pretty amazing about how much he
would let them crawl all over him, etc
Ripley is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm
negative and on heartworm & flea preventative. I am
not sure how he would do with cats, and I think he
would do fine in a home with children based upon his
behavior with the 4 puppies.
Ripley is a wonderful boy and extremely handsome. He
is happy go lucky and a bit of a goof. Please consider
giving him a forever home that he so much deserves.
Ripley is in foster care in Marietta, GA.
