Poppy

Hello from Poppy!

Poppy was picked up by animal control and cooled her
paws at a shelter until A&B spoke up for her.

From the second I met her at the shelter I had a new best
friend and let me tell you, she is a wonderful friend.

She is happy, affectionate, playful, and extremely easy
going and smart…she meets no strangers- people,
children or other dogs. I personally vouch for the “dog
friendly” …I am still in awe with the ease and grace Poppy
used to win over my 4 dogs, one in particular who has
forced other fosters to be moved from our home. We are
not sure about cats since our home is not cat friendly due to 2 of my dogs but Poppy showed nothing but
curiosity and respect with the dog-wise cats at the vet’s office.

She crate and house trained quickly. She leash trained quickly (no problems with a halter either) She
learned basic commands quickly.
As her health improves – she was underweight and malnourished which complicated her spay, her personal
setter style began to show. She is not a big barker she prefers to howl. She is around 26’ long, 7” across at
her chest and about 20” high – this are rough measurements since she thinks its play time when I get the
tape measure! She is now 40lbs and needs another 8-10lbs. Her weight is the only thing that should
increase since vet guess she is close to 2 years old. She loves to go for walks and play with the ball in the
backyard; she is beautiful to watch run. Her coat has filled out and is very soft/silky and shiny. She loves to
be brushed and she really loves to rubbed. She needs her daily dose of fun, but nothing out of the ordinary
…what she wants most is to be with you. She will play with the other dogs and enjoys her treats but if she
has to choose between you and other options, she will choose you everytime. She has never shown any
treat or food aggression, in fact she now waits for the other dogs to start eating before she will.
She is very gentle – even in play. She is lightning fast to adapt to all situations. She is great with new people
and children of all ages. We are enjoying our time together since she is a setter you can take anywhere (she
is a hit at dog parks and community events)…and she has a fan club when she leaves. I have yet to see a
person not smile as we approach or leave. Her looks grab the attention, her personality holds it.
In my years of fostering I have not come across a dog so friendly, easy going and just plain happy to be
alive from the minute I met her and may my dogs forgive me, but I have yet to have a dog whose sunny
disposition is so contagious to everyone that meets her. She is an excellent companion.

Poppy deserves her own family, one where she can be with her family as much as possible and one where
she does not have to share the spotlight with 4 neurotic dogs. If you are truly looking for a new best
friend or new family member, Poppy is your girl.
