This handsome guy is Cooper. He was pulled from
animal control on Valentine’s Day after serving his
time there as a stray, waiting for his owners to claim
him. He is estimated to be 1-2 years old and came to
us very skinny and dirty, but oh so happy to be going
somewhere safe.
We are pretty sure Cooper was used as a hunting
dog. He was most likely dumped or got lost while
hunting and then never looked for. Lucky for him
because now he gets to live the life that every dog
deserves! Since being with us, he has cleaned up so
nicely! Feeding Cooper a quality food is really helping
him put weight back on. He will fill out nicely in no
time. His excitement over meal time is still there, but
he is doing well and knows he has to sit before he
gets his bowl.
Cooper has met a cat during his stay with us and was
completely fixated on her. He would probably do best
in a home with no cats. He gets along great with our
two dogs and does great with kids. He is quite tall and
loves to lean/lay on your lap, so adult supervision is a
must around small children.
Cooper has learned “sit” and “in” (to go into his
crate). He is very food motivated, so he is not 100%
without that treat! He took to crate training within
days and does not whine when he is crated at night,
but will bark if he knows someone is still in the house.
Much to my surprise, Cooper is great on leash! He
pulls at first, but quickly settles into a calm walk. He is
a joy to take around and is a neighborhood favorite
with the kids and adults!
Cooper loves his toys! He will happily gnaw away at a
nylabone, kong, or bullystick inside but would be just
as excited to play fetch in the backyard with a tennis
ball! He also likes to sniff the whole yard for exciting
smells and watch the trees for birds. He will need a
fenced in yard to keep him from exploring beyond his
domain or an active adopter that is committed to daily
exercise to wear him out! I think he would excel at
obedience training and would probably pick up on
agility very quickly.
When inside, he is a lap dog for sure! He loves to lay
right next to or on me (mostly on me) and is my little
shadow, watching me as I do laundry or napping on
the rug in the kitchen as I cook. Cooper loves to be
around his people and just wants the affection that
he has gone so long without.
Cooper is up to date on his shots, neutered,
housebroken, on heartworm preventative and neem
oil spray, a natural flea/tick preventative. If you can
provide Cooper with the love, attention, exercise, and
training he needs, please fill out an adoption
application.
He is being fostered in Oklahoma.
