What a sweet, gentle girl! Kalie, about 3 or 4 yrs
old. She is a lovely Orange Belton young adult
female, came from the Clark Co. Animal Shelter in
Winchester, KY. The farmer who called for pick up
said she had shown up one day, and sat in the
same place for three days, "like she was waiting for
someone." She has not had much socialization
and is somewhat timid, but she's very loving and
likes attention. She was skin and bones when she
came here, but she's eating well and gaining
weight quickly.
She is young, and she gets frisky outside,
especially in the cool weather. She really likes to
play with 'Monkey', an Aussie mix I am fostering.
She's curious about my cat, but respectful. She's
timid enough that one swipe with a paw from an
assertive cat would probably be all it takes for her
to get The Message.
I think she'd do well in a home with adults or with
adults and teens. With her timidness and youth, I
don't think children younger than 12 would be a
good idea, since she might accidentally knock over
a small child, and the abruptness of older children
could be frightening for her at first.
I suspect someone was trying to train her for field
work, and they may have been heavy handed with
her. Also, she must have been an "outdoor dog,"
as she came to me without knowing about crate
training or house training. We are still working on
both concepts, and she's progressing steadily.
