Indy

Indy was a 3 month old English Setter mix puppy when he
came from a shelter where he was found as a stray with a
broken leg, most likely from being hit by a car.  The shelter
made a big effort to find a rescue to take Indy and help
him.  A&B was contacted and made room for him.
Update:  October, 2008
Indy is 6 months old now, and he is fully recovered from his broken leg that he had when he was pulled
out of the shelter.  Indy did not need surgery, and he ended up going through rehabilitation for 6
weeks to help his leg heal properly.  He has full use of his leg, puts his full weight on it, and you can't tell
that it was broken.  People are amazed at how well he has recovered.
Indy has been neutered and his hind dew claws have
been removed.  If you see bandages on his feet in his
recent pictures, it is to cover the sutures where his dew
claws were removed.  The vet thought this should be
done while he was being neutered since his dew claws
could have caught on something and torn and caused
him a lot of pain.  Indy wasn't too happy about the lamp
shade he had to wear, but he made it through that okay
too.
Indy is an active, happy puppy who loves to go for walks
and play.  He likes to play with the other setters in his
foster home, and he likes his foster brother who is 4.
Indy is crate trained and house broken, and he has been
around cats.  He also rides well in the car and is a member
of the "one ear up one ear down club" since sometimes
one of his ears goes up while the other one doesn't!
Update:  May, 2009
Indy, who was named for Independence Day 2008, says that since
the economy is supposed to be in a downturn he will work for FREE!!
In other words, Indy is a dog who needs a job.  He would love his
job to be agility, or obedience training, or jogging companion!  Indy
is a setter/some sort of herding dog mix(possibly Great Pyrenees,
possibly shepherd), and he shows more of the herding tendencies in
his heritage.  His ears do pick up when he hears birds, and he does
have spots, but other than that, he shows more of a herding type
personality.
Indy is an independent type guy who needs an owner who is
consistent, dog saavy and who would like to give him a job
and continue his obedience training.  Indy attends obedience
classes every Saturday morning now, and he likes the classes.
Indy is okay with the other dogs in his family, but
sometimes he does not like new dogs he encounters and
will bark at them and strangers.  We are working on this
at obedience class, and he is getting better. So Indy is
okay with some dogs, but some dogs he does not like.
He is playful with dogs that he likes.  Indy is fine with cats.
Indy needs a 6 ft. wooden fence to make sure the he is
safe in his back yard since he might go over a regular
chain link fence.  Indy would be fine with older children.
Indy is a big boy now weighing about 65-70 lbs.  He has
been nuetered, had all his shots, and he is on heartworm
preventative.  Indy is housebroken and crate trained, and he
rides well in the car.  Indy is almost through his puppy
chewing since he is about 1 year old now.  Indy likes to be
with his person in the house and will come in the room where
you are and lay down.  Indy had a broken leg when he was
rescued from the shelter at 3 months on 07/02/08, but he
has recovered from that after going through rehab.
