Indy

Indy, who was named for Independence Day,is an
English Setter/Great Pyrenees mix weighing in at 75
lbs.  He has been nuetered, had all his shots, and he is
on heartworm preventative.  Indy is housebroken and
crate trained, and he rides well in the car.  Indy has the
personality of a Great Pyrenees, and some spots from
the English Setter in him.  He is interested in birds, but
he does not point.  But his ears do pick up when he
hears a bird.

Indy has had extensive obedience training, and he
loves to do obedience work.  He would love to do
agility, more obedience training, or jogging.  He knows
all basic obedience commands and is good at them.
Indy is much like a Great Pyrenees in that he is an
independent type guy who needs an owner who is
consistent, dog saavy and who would like to continue
his obedience training.   Also, like the GP, Indy loves his
foster family and foster home.  He is very loyal and
loves to spend time just being near his foster family.
He is very good with all new female fosters he
encounters, and with the males in his foster home he
grew up with.

Indy loves the other dogs in his foster family, but
sometimes he does not immediately take to new dogs
he encounters and will bark at them and strangers.  He
has improved with this since attending obedience class,
but it is a natural instinct for him to want to protect his
family and his back yard from strangers.  Great
Pyrenees are guard dogs by nature.  So when Indy
barks at others, he is merely guarding his family.  Indy
does best with new dogs who are females.  He really
likes playing with female dogs who are not alpha.  Indy
has decided he does not like cats and will bark at them
when he encounters them.  His home should have no
cats.

Indy needs a 6 ft. wooden fence to make sure the he is
safe in his back yard since he might go over a regular
chain link fence.  Indy would be fine with older children.
Indy likes to be with his person in the house and will
come in the room where you are and lay down.  Indy
had a broken leg when he was rescued from the
shelter at 3 months on 07/02/08, but he has
recovered from that after going through rehab.
