Heath is a SPECIAL NEEDS adoption, because he
has a bum left hip.  The veterinarian said he could
not determine if the malformation of the hip socket
and head of the femur were congenital or due to an
injury.  It doesn't look like what one would call hip
dysplaysia.  He does favor his left rear leg from time
to time, but doesn't seem to mind or give indications
that he is in pain.  Arthritis will be an issue as he
ages.

He is a one year old neutered male tri-color English
Setter, field type.  He has very little brown with his
white and black, but all it takes is a little to qualify
him for the "tri-color" label.

On a 1 to 5 Setter Activity Rating, with 5 being the
highest, right now I'd put Heath at a 1, but he's
already showing signs of mellowing.  (As I said, that
left hip doesn't slow him down much.)
It's "laugh therapy" living with this boy.  At the
moment he's all legs, ears and dewlaps, sort of like
Disney's Goofy.  He's so amiable and the world is
definitely his oyster.  Squeaky toys and big, smoked
knuckle bones are his favorite toys.  (It's pretty
funny to watch this big, masculine Setter cavorting
through the house with a squeaky toy in his
mouth.)  He loves to play fetch.

He is VERY BIRDY!  He has not bothered our cat,
but Snickers doesn't run from the dogs.  Since
Heath does have a high prey drive, I believe he
would do best in a home without small non-dog
pets.  He gets along great with other dogs.  Also,
because he is so exuberant, I recommend that he
go to a home that doesn't have small children or
cats.  He's an absolute sweetheart, but there is a
distinct possibility of him knocking a small child
down without meaning to.
He's very affectionate and is coming along well on his basic obedience.  He is a big boy, and
still has some growing and filling out to do.  He was grossly underweight when he was picked
up in a rural county in Kentucky, but has been gradually gaining weight while in the shelter
and now in foster care.
