Happily Setter After
A Photo Album of Love

I Got You
The dogs pictured here are the LUCKY ones, the ones who have found their forever homes. Sadly, this
is not always the case. All of us who are involved with Above & Beyond English Setter Rescue try our
best to ensure that all the dogs needing a home find their own Happily Setter After family.

To the families of Above & Beyond, if you have a new picture or update on your fur baby that you'd
like to share, we'd love to hear from you! Please contact
June VanDemark and she will share your
information with the A and B family.

Cissy
Cissy has taken very well to her new home,
her step-brother Murphy, her Invisible-
Fenced yard with its many feathered
friends, car-rides and sleeping rolled up into
a little ball in front of the fireplace.. She is
quiet bit gets very excited when it's time
for a walk. She still does her belly-crawls but
I think it is more to amuse us now than out
of her shyness. She's come a long way
since first coming to live with us. She's a
beauty, particularly in the fields where she
seems well-suited. Thanks for your help.
Tom
Katie Hartzell
It's been almost a year since Katie
found her forever home.  She was
the best Valentine ever. Thank You
A and B!
Shirley Hartzell
Helen
Helen was safely delivered to us on the last
leg of her journey from Texas by a nice
trucker named Tom.  Helen has a sweet and
mild disposition, and is quick to learn new
things. Despite deafness and orthopedic
problems Helen perseveres as if she were a
pup. She recently learned how to go up &
down stairs, we’ve curtailed that, on orders
from the vet, so now we carry her up!  We
use simple signs with the various activities
Helen does.  Although Helen understands
what’s going on before we do! Helen is very
observant, and curious ! She loves to ride in
the car and watch the world go by.   She
loves going to breakfast with my husband
who shares his coffee and egg sandwich, and
loves to accompany me on to town.
Larkin & Ryder Grover
Ryder and Larkin are 2 balls of fluff full
of energy. Ryder is getting quite good
with his Aroooooo bark when he wants
food or is just having a good time,
Larkin is quite the jumper and loves to
get all 4 paws in the air. Ryder is just a
giant teddy bear that moves his whole
back end when he trys to wag.  Both
love to wake me up with puppy kisses
in the morning and let me know when
they have to go outside.  -Nick
Callie McClellen
After suddenly losing our previous
setter, Brandie, we realized what a huge
hole was left. After meeting Callie, we
immediately fell in love with her gentle
and loving demeanor. She plays with the
cats indoors and asks to go outside to
check out the birds and other critters.
When she's ready to come in, one little
"woof" signals her presence at the door.
But, best of all, she gives the greatest
hugs in the world! I truly think she lets
us know that we're her furever family!
Roscoe Quisenberry
It’s been almost 5 months since Roscoe
has joined the family. Things have gone
smoothly most of the time. There has
been the occasional disagreement over a
toy between Duchess and Roscoe but
she hasn’t had much trouble keeping
him in line. As a storm passed the other
night Roscoe trembled as he always
does with storms and artillery practice at
Ft. Knox. However, the trembling doesn’
t seem as bad as it did at first. At meals,
Roscoe no longer tucks his tail while he
eats. Instead, he continues to wag.
Winston Jr. & Winston Sr. Phipps
Winston and Winston have joined their
new brother Parker and are living happily
ever after at Echo Farm in Hopkinton, MA.
Anita and Bill have been busy helping
Parker adjust to the elder's "set in his
ways" style and the younger's secret wish
to be the alpha dog!!  Everyone is doing
just fine!  The Phipps family extends many
thanks to all at A&B who make this happen.
Homer (Scooter) Merritt
Homer is doing great!  In just 4 short months, he
has become an integral part of our family.  He is the
most entertaining dog we've ever been around and
we enjoy him immensely.  Homer adjusted quickly to
our home, our schedule and we believe he is very
happy and content living with us.  Homer gets
constant attention and hugs and rubs.  He loves
being petted and having his backside scratched and
he's very vocal about it.  Homer actually seems to be
talking to us with his vocalizing - it goes on for
several minutes, especially after he wakes up in the
morning, and when we make the same noises back
at him.  We are extremely happy that we chose to
adopt through a rescue organization and feel so
fortunate that we were able to bring Homer into our
family.  We are looking forward to a loving and
fun-filled future with him. The Merritt Family
Ruby & Tucker Belanger
I adopted RUBY in August 2005 after my
beloved Pookie passed. Ruby is a joy and
adapted beautifully to her new home. When
I learned about Tucker and saw his picture,
I just had to have him. I picked him up in
NC. on Dec. 23rd '07, after an already long
trip, we had another 6 hours to my home in
Georgia. As soon as he got here Ruby and
Tucker bonded immediately. Ruby is a very
independent 6 year old and Tucker, 3 is
very needy and loveable as well. It is so fun
to watch them play in the yard and tease
one another. They don't even have time to
nap.  Play, play, play! Tucker respects
Ruby, follows her around as if to learn what
to do, and Ruby loves to instigate the play.
I couldn't be happier and they are Happy as
well. They are great friends and companions
and light up my life every day. Thank you
ABOVE AND BEYOND RESCUE. You do a
magnificent service.."  (Tucker is on the
right & Ruby on the left.) Maureen Belanger,
Townsend, GA.
Lily
Lily is doing wonderfully.  We like to say
she is the hardest working dog in
Macungie - she spends as much time as
possible either chasing birds outside or
watching them (with tail constantly
wagging) from the window.  When she's
tired she likes to lay in the sun or at night
on the couch with us.  She has quickly
became part of our family and now has
three humans who dote on her.  It has
been immensely satisfying to watch her
confidence increase as she has gotten
used to being loved and cared for.  Lily
loves to go camping with us but she's
not too sure about our canoe.  She also
loves hiking on trails and wishes one of us
would take up trail running!  Lily is a
creature of habit and has gotten used to
a daily morning walk with Bill - rain, snow
or shine.  When he was away on
business she gave me no peace until I
took her for a walk.
Jenny
Jenny she is adjusting really well.  She loves running
around the yard with my boys and we have her in a
training class now which she really seems to like.
She is funny about pictures though, point a camera
at her and she literally runs the other way.
Skylar Malatesta
Skylar is doing great!  He has adapted well
to his new family, home and yard!  He
spends his days barking at the school bus
and chasing his arch enemies (squirrels) out
of his yard.   He gets daily runs though a
300 acre reservation and has recently
taken to swimming after, and then away
from,  the Canadian geese in the pond.  He
is also a big fan of harrassing Rheda (she
works from home) into playing!  In the
picture he has her boot.  He goes
everywhere with us and everyday is a new
big adventure for him!
Abby Lamkin
We adopted Abby in January and she
is doing wonderful. Abby is so happy
and has the sweetest personality. We
love her so much. She has a big sister
(Abby) an English setter, and the two
of them are inseparable. They play so
well together and even sleep together.
Little Abby is such a wonderful
companion for her big sister. Even
though little Abby is deaf, you would
never know it. She picks up on
everything just as if she could hear.
She is such a joy and we are so happy
she is part of our family.  I would highly
recommend anyone to adopt a deaf
dog. It’s the best thing we ever did!!
Sami Stahl
Sami is happily spending her days in her large,
fenced-in yard chasing birds and balls.  Her favorite
times of the day are going to and from the bus stop
to see all the kids and other dogs.  She is
well-behaved and has learned quite a few tricks such
as paw, stay, come, sit, down, and rollover.  She
has a hard time resisting jumping up on friends and
chasing kids, though.  We are working dilligently on
that.  She loves walks and going to Puppy Club to
play with other four-legged friends.  She crashes
hard every night!
Joie(Flora) Petty Zientek
Flora now known as Joie Petty Zientek is
the happiest pup I ever known. She
came into our home of 5 other dogs and
instantly knew she was in her furever
home. She made friends with her doggie
sister right away and constantly wags
her tail, even in her sleep. She is the
reason people should adopt !!!! Our lives
have been truly blessed by adopting this
great girl !!!  Barb & MJ
Peanut Barrett
Our little Peanut is living the life of luxury on
his new 4 acre farm in Sinking Spring, PA.
Peanut loves the great outdoors and gets lots
of exercise.  Peanut especially loves his big
brother Rusty. They get along famously and
they play all day long !  On rare occasion you
can catch him taking a nap on the patio
soaking in the warmth of the day's sun.
Peanut has become a very social & loveable
guy over the past 10 months and continues
to blossom each & every day. Home cooked
meals and bed privileges help a bit. The
Barrett family couldn't be happier. He's
perfect and we love him dearly.  A big thank
you to the Rescue for helping Peanut find his
forever home !!  The Barrett Family - Tracie,
Paul, Rusty & Peanut (pictured on the left)
Opal Nolt
Opal has been with us four months
and is definitely part of the family.
She is a snuggle bug and sleeps with
us every night.  She went on her first
camping trip two weeks ago and we
had a great time.  Looking forward to
more.  She listens very well and
enjoys running with Skye in the
grassy field beside us.  They are both
sweet hearts and we are glad we
could rescue them from A and B.
Opal is on the left and Skye on the
right.  Burnie and Dawn
Mylee Beaton
Mylee is doing GREAT. She is a typical
puppy, full of energy and loves to play
with her big sister Kenna but she also likes
to cuddle.  Mylee has wavy fur that feels
like silk and a long tail that curls, and that
ROOOO.... bark AWESOME!  Mylee's
favorite toy is her tail, she loves to chase
it.  Mylee is a lot of fun to have in our
house, we love having her.  The Beatons.
Spring Casazza
Spring is doing great here at her new
home.  She loves any toy that squeaks
and loves to run around looking for rabbits,
squirrels or birds.  Our front window has a
large sill and she sits up there looking out
the window like a cat.  We are so happy to
have her in our family!
Violet Bailey
Violet is a beautiful Blue Belton English Setter who
we adopted from A&B Setters in April of 2007.  At
the time, she was believed to be 7-8 years old but,
in fact was 12 years old; she was deaf, had a heart
murmur, chronic ear condition, and allergy
problems (itchy skin).  Violet will celebrate her 14th
birthday on January 8th.  Lisa had told us before
we adopted Violet that she had a nickname of
"grump-grump" -- because of her facial expression
... when we saw her, we just chuckled, because it
was true.  But, believe me, Violet is not sad or
grumpy.   She continues to be just the sweetest
girl in the world and we just feel so lucky to have
her as part of our family.   Every day with Violet is
a gift.
Fresca VanDemark
Hi there. I'm Fresca and I just love life,
every day is a new and exciting adventure!
I came here over a year ago on my way
to a new life.  Well, it didn't take me long to
decide this is a wonderful place to be.  I
have 2 setter siblings to play with and 4
cats too!  What more could an English
Setter girl want?  Oh yeah, birds to watch
and squirrels to chase, all those things
abound here.  Mom talks about "failing" but
really I think we're all winners here.  Thank
you A and B from the newest member of
The Clan.  Love Fresca.
Honey Arndt
Honey loves her new house, her
furbrothers and sister, and
especially her Daddy!
Birdie Shanley

with John and Brenda
Shanley in 2008.  She now
lives with her two Afghan
brothers and deaf English
Setter sister and is very

her whole family."
Chelsea & Sally McLaughlin
"Chelsea and Sally, both adopted by
the McLaughlin Family in 2008 are now
living happily with their older Setter

Sue....what an amazing dog....she completed
her freshman term top of her class...our
instructors all say Sue and I have a special
bond...and we would excel at obedience or
