If you want a dog who greets you with
“happy feet” when you wake up in the
morning and get home in the evening.  If
you want a dog who walks well on a leash
and will cuddle on your lap, but is very
content spending time alone running in
the yard, monitoring all of the critters.  If
you want a dog that doesn’t bark unless
someone is at the door, but won’t jump
on your visitors when you welcome them
into your home.  If you want a dog who is
gentle with children and friendly to every
dog she meets . . . then Elizabeth is the
dog for you.
If you want a dog to be a companion to your rough and tumble Portuguese Water Dog . . . then you need
not read any further.
Elizabeth is a 4 year old English Setter that came into our lives in Nov. 2006 when we rescued her from our
local animal shelter.  At the time we were looking for a dog to be a companion to our crazy 2 year old
Portie (3 now, and still crazy), so of course I drive home from the shelter with the most pitiful dog they
have.  We suspect that Elizabeth was once in a puppy mill because she is a full-blood English Setter and has
been bread more than once.  She was also afraid to be outside when we first got her, which led us to
believe that she spent her life inside in a kennel.  Her coat was in awful condition, she was underweight and
missing a couple of teeth.  Try as we may, we have not had much luck getting her to put on weight.  She is
little for a female English Setter at 28 pounds, but she is the ideal size for a lapdog.  After a battery of tests
performed by our vet came back normal, we have concluded that she is just a skinny bitch.  We should all
be so lucky.
Elizabeth would be the perfect dog for the single or couple who is away from home during the workday
and needs a dog who is happy being alone.  She is never aggressive, but gets scared easily, so the ideal
home would not include lots of children creating lots of chaos on a regular basis. (We have ten and
twelve year old boys, so we know.)

Elizabeth is beautiful, loyal, loving and special.  We wish we could be her forever home, but have realized
that she would be happier without a fifty pound dog pouncing on her constantly.
