His A&B official name is Donnell, after the last name of the lady who
pulled him from the shelter and into rescue (his rescue Angel, so to
speak) -- but this guy is so friendly and sweet that the name Buddy
stuck almost immediately. He is literally everybody's friend.
He's about 55 pounds of solid, athletic, wonderful field setter. He is
short-silky-soft-haired with pretty fringes on his legs and tail. Buddy's
coat is mostly white with faint black ticking here & there, and he's got
some black spots on his face an ears ...almost as if he managed got into
some black ink, LOL. I will send you pictures as soon as I can get them
from my phone into the computer -- I am technologically challenged
sometimes :)
I will tell you the two negative things first because I don't want you to
be thinking the whole time you read this, "Ok, what's the catch?" He
really is an amazing dog and I could go on for hours about how much
we adore him. But honesty, as you know, is the only way to go to get a
good match!

. Buddy will chew. Because we've only ever had older
dogs, the thing that took us by surprise with Buddy was
his chewing. If Buddy doesn't have toys or bones to
chew, he will chew things. Things he shouldn't. He
knawed a chair, the corner of a table, shoes, wooden
spoons out of the sink, a belt, and bra-straps. Why the
straps? I have no idea. But I found what looked like lacy
yamicas in his dog bed because he had eaten the straps
off of bras he stole from the laundry basket. I was not
amused!! He does MUCH prefer bones however, and
when I have my act together and keep him well-supplied,
we don't have any problems. Rawhides and pigs ears are
his favorite!!

2. Buddy is energetic, ...a little too energetic for us. This is
completly subjective because one person's "perfect" is
another person's "too much". Realistically, we're kind of
lazy dog-owners. We're 35 and 36 years old and we both
work full time. Buddy is cooped up in our kitchen with
Snoopy for too long at a time. He gets affection and
attention when we're home, but we don't do daily walks
like we should for them (and for us). Our Snoopy (a bench
setter) is a complete couch potato indoors and out.
Snoopy's favorite past-time is to sit or loll around and look
at things. Buddy, on the other hand, wants to investigate,
sniff things, and sometimes wants to go outside just to run
a lap around the yard. It's actually the cutest thing. And
he ususally wants to do so while carrying one of his various
toys. Buddy will leave the house with one toy, and come
back in with a different one that he had stashed
somewhere outside in the yard. I know come Spring I'm
going to find the weirdest stuff out there! LOL!

I think Buddy needs and deserves more attention
and activity from his forever family, which is why
we've reluctantly decided not to keep him for
ourselves. Reluctant because despite any
naughty behavior, Buddy is your typical happy,
loving and fantastic dog. Now that I've told you
the negatives, here are the tons of reasons we
love him so much......

1. Buddy is fantastic with Snoopy - our 4-year
old English Setter. They never fight. They are like
two happy clams. They don't fight over food,
toys, beds, or affection, though they both always
try to get to us first and wiggle past the other
for pets. Snoopy has his bowl where his meals
are served, and Buddy does too, and they both
know whose food is whose, though Snoopy will
try to sneak Buddy's if he doesn't get to it fast
enough. Buddy would rather get attention than
eat. Snoopy, however, has his food priorities,
LOL. When they rough-house and chase each
other, sometimes the one dog is
dominant/initiating the play, and other times the
other. Buddy can run circles around Snoopy
though, but doesn't overpower him or play
mean. (I think fair play is a big plus!! LOL!)

2. He loves people. I was told/warned upon receipt of him that Buddy jumped over a 4-foot cyclone fence
as if it wasn't even there. The good news was that, even though he was in that temporary foster home
(The O'Donnell family, I think) for only a few days at most when he got loose, when they called him, Buddy
came running to them as if he had been their dog for years. I was initially worried because we have a
four-foot cyclone fence too, but he had never tried to jump it, not once. But he probably could if he tried.
A tree fell in our yard a little while ago, and our Snoopy has to put two paws on it and hop over it, whereas
Buddy can just sail over it like a graceful gazelle. Buddy is really fun to watch outside. From that I would
guess he's on the younger side -- maybe 2 to 3 years old.

3. He loves people despite the fact that he may have been hit. When we go to pet him on the head,
sometimes he'll squint as if he's going to be hit. It's the saddest thing. He's almost completely over it, but in
the beginning, he'd actually duck out from under your hand to avoid contact :'( Now, when I go to pet him
on the head, I speak to him so he's relaxed and, boy, does he like to be petted!!
4. I don't know how Buddy is with kids as we don't have any, but based on what a doll-baby he is, I feel that
he would be gentle. My only concern would be that he would knock them over because he is energetic and
exuberant. He does jump up but it seems like it's to try to get to you for pets first. I am not disciplined or
an expereinced dog-trainer enough to have gotten him to stop jumping completely, but he has gone from
completely pouncing on you to just jumping onto his hind legs and hovering in the air. When you
disapprove, he settles down. He does do a wonderful Sit on command, and will sit properly on command
before he is let outside. Otherwise he will jump at the door because he is so excited at the idea of going out.

5. He is the best cuddler ever. After he has had his fill of fun, if
you're reading, crocheting, watching TV, or working on the couch,
Buddy will sidle up next to you, wrap around you, or lay on you,
and sleep. It's like an angel sleeping. If you're on the laptop and
kind of perched on the edge of the couch, Buddy will rest his head
on your hip, on your leg, or curl around behind you like one of
those husband-pillows. He loves being near you.
6. His tail never stops wagging unless he is in a deep-sleep. I mean
never. Buddy wags with enthusiasm and reckless abandon. And if
Buddy is sleeping and he hears your voice, the tip of his tail will
quiver.
7. He smiles. When you come home and baby-talk to him, his lips
curl up like a snarl, but you can tell from the furiously wiggling tail
and tap dancing around, that he is beside-himself-happy to see
you. Sometimes it's a full smile, and other times he's got that Billy
Idol/Elvis thing going and his lip will only curl on one side. It's
hilarious. He will definitely make you laugh in return.
If the chewing or energy level hasn't scared you and you still want to know more or meet him, I know
he'd be more than happy to meet you, too! Feel free to call me if you have any questions and Good
Luck on your search for a furry companion!
