Bill Bailey

If you want comic relief and splendid
companionship, Bill Bailey is THE dog for you!  He
is a "Point-Setter," e.g. a mix of an English
Pointer and English Setter, and every
Point-Setter I've ever met or fostered sure has
been an example of hybrid vigor!  Somehow,
they get the best of both breeds.  They are
smart, love playing and training, are affectionate
and responsive, and are just great dogs!

Bailey is about 9 mos. old now and has been with
me since he was a baby.  He is crate trained, and
he's pretty well house trained.  His "accidents"
occur when I'm not paying attention, so that's
my fault, not his!  If he is in his crate, he will bark
to say he has to go out.  But he is NOT a barky
dog.  He only barks if there's a reason to, such as
needing to go out or someone comes to the
door.  And if I tell him, "Quiet Dog," he obeys
immediately.  What a good boy!

He happily comes bounding up to me whenever I
call him to come.  He loves ear scratches and
belly rubs.  Loves doggie treats (especially the
boiled liver I make for training treats. ) Since he's
a bird dog pup, he does have quite a bit of
energy, but not excessive, and he gets along
great with other dogs.  He loves to play.  He pays
attention when I'm talking to him, and is only
slightly distractable, which is pretty goo for a bird
dog pup.  He really is a fun companion!

I haven't had the chance to do much formal
obedience with him, and I'm often reluctant to
do so with my foster dogs as it promotes closer
bonding, which is hard on me and them when
they leave.  But he hasn't NEEDED a lot of formal
training.  He does want to pull a bit on the lead
when he gets excited on our walks, but heck,
he's still a kid!  He knows "sit," and we've been
working on "sit stay" with excellent results.

I haven't had him around children, but I'm sure
he'd be great with older ones.  He might be a
little too energetic still to be in a home with small
children.  Though he's great with my cat,
Snickers is used to dogs and doesn't run from
them.  I think he'd do best in a home with NO
CATS.  He's fine with small dogs like my Tibetan
Spaniels.  Actually, he's a big wuss, and submits
to other dogs when there is any dominance
display going on.  He just wants to get along
with everyone, human and canine.

If you are looking for a wonderful companion, Bill
Bailey is the dog for you!
